WARD 1 - Tony Martinez - COUNCILMEMBER Rudy Salas

Bio:
Tony’s motivation and love are the children and families in the low-income communities of Bakersfield and Kern County. For them, he consistently seeks out projects and partnerships to enhance the quality of life in their neighborhoods. Presently, Tony is assigned to the Bakersfield Police Departments Crime Prevention Unit, and focuses on problem solving through Neighborhood Watch and Business Watch Programs.
Tony, grew up and went to school in Southern California. Tony’s interest in law enforcement began after enlisting in the U.S. Army as a Military Policeman doing tours of duty in both Korea and Vietnam. In 1965, after returning home from Vietnam, he continued his career as a police officer with the City of Arcadia.
Tony is a firm believer in community partnerships, and along with his determination and persistence, he has been able to build a solid track record of professional accomplishments. Tony, has received these awards with his partnerships; Keep America Beautiful National Award, Beautiful Bakersfield Camellia Award, Hispanics Making A Difference in Their Community by USA Weekend, Individual of the Year Gems of the Community Action Award, Region 10 Crime Prevention Practitioner of the Years, California Probation Dept. Cliff Morris Award, Caesar Chavez Youth Mentorship Award.
In addition to Keep Bakersfield Beautiful, Tony is a member of the board of these local organizations; Kern County Board of Trade, Goodwill Industries of South Central California, Arts Council of Kern County, Community Action Partnership of Kern, Downtown Business Association, East Bakersfield Community Collaborative, and the California Hispanic Chambers of Commerce State Board.

WARD 2 - STEPHEN MONTGOMERY - COUNCILMEMBER SUE BENHAM

Bio: Stephen Montgomery and his wife Joyce Hulen live in the historic Oleander Sunset district in a Clarence Cullimore FAIA designed Adobe house built in 1937. Stephen focuses on graffiti, litter and recycling. He is involved with downtown business organizations representing KBB in improving the central and arts district down town in making the area a more attractive and desirable place to go.
A long time life member of the Sierra Club, he is currently serving on the executive committee of the Kern Kaweah chapter with focus on urban planning and historic preservation.
After more than 40 years of service, Stephen retired from the Union Pacific Railroad. Until his retirement, he was the legislative officer for Local 835, United Transportation Union to represent train and engine crews in this area. In retirement he is an active member of the National Association of Retired and Veteran Railroad Employees and is the legislative officer of the Kern County Chapter. Having studied architecture without completing a degree in the 1970's in retirement he has returned to school taking architecture related classes at Bakersfield College.
With a strong interest in sound urban planning, he has represented the Sierra Club before the Bakersfield City Council on urban planning issues, including the adoption of the “hillside ordinance” and other matters that required consideration.
Currently, on behalf of a county official, he is inventorying and identifying architecturally significant buildings and historic sites in Oildale that merit preservation and public awareness.
Stephen's interests include art, history, classical music, architecture, historic preservation, and sound urban planning. Stephen states, “I’m passionate in promoting Bakersfield and making it a better place to live.” |

WARD 3 - JENIFER PITCHER- COUNCILMEMBER KEN WEIR
Bio: Jenifer Pitcher was born and raised in Bakersfield. She went to Centennial High School, where she was a member of the We the People team and year book editor. She graduated with honors in 2004. Jenifer, spent the first two years of college at California Lutheran University then transferred to California State University Bakersfield in 2006. In 2007, Jenifer interned in Washington D.C. with Congresswoman Mary Bono. She graduated CSUB Phi Sigma Alpha (Political Science Honors) with a BA in Political Science in 2008. Jenifer received her Masters in Interdisciplinary Studies, where she combined Political Science and Sociology in June 2011. Her thesis was on the influence of gender stereotypes on political candidates in Kern County. She has worked as an associate at a local public relations agency. In 2010, Jenifer was the District Representative for Senator Ashburn. In 2011 she worked as the Community Resource Specialist for the Independent Living Center of Kern County. Currently, Jenifer is the Community Liaison for Kern Citizens for Sustainable Government and an adjunct lecturer at Taft College teaching Political Science.

Ray Scott Ward 3 Alternate - Councilmember Ken Weir
Bio:
Ray Scott has been the chairman of the Greater Bakersfield Green Expo since its inception in 2010. The expo is an annual showcase of green artwork by local high school students competing for scholarships, as well as a venue for environmental vendors and agencies to share green information and more with the public. The environment and waste management have been on the forefront of Ray’s mind every day since May 2001, when he became the current administrator for Price Disposal. Ray has a 30 year management career mostly in Bakersfield, CA area. He received a Business Administration Degree from Taft College in 1982. Soon after graduation, Ray enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. He served in the Exchange Operations Chief & Special Operations from 1983 through 1987.

Dorothy Vokolek, Ward 4 Alternate - Councilmember David Couch

Bio: Dorothy Vokolek is a graduate of CSUB with a B.S. in Business Administration. Her career includes owning her own business as a Certified Family Financial Planner and many other aspects of Financial Planning. Over the years she has also worked in the Defense Industry (Ridgecrest) in both the private and public sector. Some of her previous duties includes; Maintaining Software for weapons, and later supervising others who performed these tasks, at China Lake she was Supervisor for the Harm Missle test set software support activity and interfacing with the formal Naval pesonnel as well as contractors performing services for the Navy. Now retired, Dorothy enjoys traveling, tennis, hiking and other outdoor activities. Besides Keep Bakersfield Beautiful she has been dedicated to volunteering for other organizations such as; PTA President, Head of Ridgecrest Beautification Committee, CASA, and the Salvation Army.

WARD 5 - DAVE TAYLOR, Vice Chair - COUNCILMEMBER HAROLD HANSON

Bio: David Taylor was appointed to the Keep Bakersfield Beautiful Board by City Councilman Harold Hanson in May 2004. During his tenure, Mr. Taylor has served on many committees and is the only person to be elected as Chairman of the Board consecutively in 2005 and 2006. In addition, David serves as co-chair of The Great America Clean-Up Committee and works on the Education Committee.
Mr. Taylor coordinates the Mayor's Freeway Clean-up under the direction of the Honorable Mayor Harvey L. Hall. David was instrumental in bringing Keep Bakersfield Beautiful to the table when a grant became available to plant 500 trees in five years. the committee will complete that project his year, 2009, with the planting of the last 100 trees.
Mr. Taylor's passion for volunteering come from his mentor and employer, Harvey L Hall, who has taught David by example that volunteering and community go hand in hand.
David has lived in Bakersfield all his adult life and considers Bakersfield his home. He has been employed by Hall Ambulance Service, Inc. for 20 years and began his career as an EMT. Mr. Taylor presently holds the position of Public Relations and Marketing Representative.
Mr. Taylor is married with three children and likes playing paint ball, softball and collecting in his spare time.

Patrick Frase, Ward 5 Alternate - Councilmember Harold Hanson

Bio:
Patrick relocated to Bakersfield from the midwest in 2003 and immediately became involved in "taking pride” in the community of Bakersfield.
His involvement began when Mayor Harvey Hall originated his monthly Highway 99 clean-ups. Within a short time he gave his commitment and with passion was chosen to serve on the KBB committee.
Patrick is a graduate of Leadership Bakersfield and is an Ambassador of the Greater Bakersfield Chamber of Commerce. He currently is a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals and has been a professional fundraiser and grant writer for the past 28 years.
He currently serves on the board of directors of the Bakersfield Jazz Workshop and the Kern River Blues Society. He is an active member of three service clubs in Bakersfield.
Patrick is also a professional musician and a member of the American Federation of Musicians and the Percussive Arts Society. He performs in a number of musical groups in Southern California including church and theatrical performance.
He is proud to work with those who care in making a difference in our community.

Sheryl Graab, Ward 7 Alternate - Councilmember Russell Johnson
Bio:
Sheryl Graab and her husband Karl have just returned to Bakersfield after living in the Bay Area for almost three years, where she worked as a Community Development Director for Girl Scouts of Northern California. Sheryl considers Bakersfield her “hometown” and loves being involved in community events and activities. She has returned to work for Wasco State Prison, where she is the Paroles Custodian and volunteers for the Girl Scouts in her spare time. Prior to her departure to the Bay Area, Sheryl served as the Chairman of the Board for Keep Bakersfield Beautiful and had been a member since she was originally appointed by Councilmember Zack Scrivener in 2004. She was the originator of Make a Difference Day in Bakersfield, and loves getting the word out to everyone who’ll listen about calling 32-ERASE, picking up litter and recycling everything.
Sheryl has an AA degree in Liberal Studies from Bakersfield College, a BA in Business/Marketing from the University of Phoenix and a certificate in Grant Writing from CSUB.
She has one daughter who is away at school studying to be a video game designer, and two cats, Spotty and Tiger.

MAYOR'S APPOINTMENT - JOHN ENRIQUEZ, CHAIR - MAYOR HARVEY L. HALL

Bio: John Enriquez was a founding member of Keep Bakersfield Beautiful in 2000, and has served on the board twice, including as Chairman in 2004. He is currently spearheading the Highway 99 Tree Planting Subcommittee of the Beautification Committee, dedicated to planting 500 trees on Highway 99 over five years beginning in 2005. The effort will have met it's goal in 2009 when the last 55 trees are planted in October. Mr Enriquez has served on the Board of Keep California Beautiful for five years. He is a past Vice Chairman and presently Chairperson of the Proud Communities Program.
Mr. Enriquez has been active in a number of community programs and projects over the years including helping to construct the interactive waterfall at the Rabobank Arena and serving on the Fox Theater Foundation board. He is the Chairman of the Kern County Heritage Commission. Mr. Enriquez is the only volunteer in the nation to win both the Iron Eyes Cody Award (2004) and the Volunteer of the Year Award (2003) from Keep America Beautiful in Washington DC. He has been employed by the City of Santa Clarita since 1991. |

KBB Advisory Committee - Lisa English
Bio: Lisa English is an accomplished student at Bakersfield College studying Horticulture, Forestry and Plant Science with a Horticulture Emphasis. She serves on the Student Senate and has been both an Agriculture and Outreach Ambassador for the college. Lisa currently works in the Bakersfield College food pantry. She also is in the Green Thumb Garden Club, The Society of American Foresters , and is the Consumer Representative to the Kern County Homeless Collaborative. Lisa's enthusiasm for Keep Bakersfield Beautiful is contagious as she inspires civic responsibility and community pride in residents.
