Local 15th Anniversary Great American Cleanup Logo

Litter: It's Beneath Us Mayor Harvey Hall and the Keep Bakersfield Beautiful Committee invite you to volunteer for the 15th Annual Great American Cleanup (GAC) main event on Saturday, April 23.  Thousands of volunteers of all ages are welcome to clean up litter and illegal dumps while approximately 350 volunteers will community garden, paint, and do other community service projects.  Later that morning, volunteer crews will go to Yokuts Park for the volunteer appreciation awards ceremony, barbecue, and games.  You'll have a chance to meet Mayor Hall, the president of Keep America Beautiful, Jennifer Jehn, and Keep Bakersfield Beautiful's own Captain Cleanup. Past volunteers are encouraged to put on their old GAC or Keep Bakersfield Beautiful shirts to enjoy the volunteer appreciation festivities with us.  Plus, everyone is welcome to check out vendors and student art in the 7th Annual Greater Bakersfield Green Expo.  For more information, please call Jessica Felix at (661) 326-3539.  You can “Be Part of the Crew” in 2016!

community gardener harvesting

Crops are growing! You could eat fresh fruit, vegetables, herbs, and even some flowers that you grow yourself. You don’t have to have a green thumb to lend a helping hand or enjoy the great food. Community gardens are a great way to live a healthier lifestyle whether you want to be the most skilled volunteer or simply make a modest donation for fresh food at harvest time. Volunteers may also become a member of the Seeds of Inspiration Community Garden or the Greenfield Walking Group Garden. There is a small membership fee to cover garden expenses such as seeds, soil, and maintenance. Gardens founded by Keep Bakersfield Beautiful are also great places to hang out, relax, and get to know your neighbors.

Keep Bakersfield Beautiful is an affiliate of Keep America Beautiful.
